Polysaccharide of Salmonella typhi (Ty2 strain)
Indications/Uses
Prevention of typhoid fever in adult & childn >2 yr, especially travellers to endemic areas, migrants, health care professionals & military personnel.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >2 yr 0.5 mL single dose, followed by a revaccination every 3 yr if the patient is still exposed to the risk. Vaccination schedule is the same for adults & childn.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the vaccine or formaldehyde or casein. Postpone vaccination if patient is ill w/ a high temp.
Special Precautions
Not for protection against Salmonella paratyphi A or B or non-typhoidal salmonella. Concomitant use w/ corticosteroids, cytotoxic medicines, radiotherapy or other treatments that weaken the immune system. HIV. Hemophilia. Do not inj by the intravascular route. Pregnancy. Not indicated in childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain, erythema, swelling/oedema, induration; headache, muscle pain, generally feeling unwell, fatigue, asthenia. Fever.
